Ο κατάλογος Plant Bug Planetary Biodiversity Inventory του American Museum of Natural History αναφέρει ως ξενιστές τα Asphodelus microcarpus και Asphodelus ramosus, καθώς και Juniperus sp.

Horistus (Horistus) infuscatus in Cyprus
Horistus (Horistus) infuscatus (Brullé, 1832) is a plant bug belonging to the family Miridae, subfamily Mirinae and tribe Mirini. The species has a long history of being recorded from Cyprus, although the taxonomic interpretation of some historical Cypriot records requires caution.
No well-established English common name appears to exist specifically for this species, so the scientific name is preferable.
Description
It is a typical member of the Miridae, with an elongate body, relatively long legs and antennae, and developed hemelytra in adults. Its coloration includes brownish, reddish and darker tones and may vary between individuals.
As with many closely related Miridae, reliable identification should not be based solely on general coloration. The genus Horistus contains morphologically similar species, and scientific identification may require examination of detailed morphological characters.
Taxonomic History
The species was described in 1832 by Gaspard Auguste Brullé, originally as Miris infuscatus, from material originating in the Morea, or Peloponnese, Greece. The male lectotype was collected in the Peloponnese in 1829 and is preserved in the collections of the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle (MNHN) in Paris as specimen MNHN-EH-EH25738.
Its nomenclatural history is complex. Older literature used combinations including Capsodes infuscatus and Capsodes (Horistus) infuscatus. Subsequent revision restored Horistus to generic status, resulting in its present placement as Horistus (Horistus) infuscatus.
Historical Record from Cyprus
An important historical Cyprus record appears in Ludvík Hoberlandt's work on the Heteroptera of Cyprus. Specimens identified as Capsodes (Horistus) infuscatus were collected in the Polemedia Hills on 9–10 March 1950. The material consisted of one male and one female under the typical name and one male and three females identified as Capsodes (Horistus) infuscatus f. rufipennis.
Later taxonomic literature, however, has noted that old records attributed to H. infuscatus from Cyprus, Iran, Israel and Syria probably concern the related Horistus bimaculatus and H. turcomanus. Historical Cyprus records therefore require modern taxonomic reassessment before their identity can be regarded as completely resolved.
Nevertheless, modern online checklists continue to list Horistus infuscatus among the Miridae recorded from Cyprus.
Distribution
Horistus infuscatus is associated principally with the Mediterranean and southeastern European region. Its original description was based on material from the Peloponnese, while published records include Greece, Crete and Turkey.
Its precise distribution needs to be interpreted in light of later taxonomic revisions, since several older eastern Mediterranean records have subsequently been questioned or attributed to related species.
Host Plants and Feeding
The American Museum of Natural History Plant Bug catalogue records Asphodelus microcarpus, Asphodelus ramosus and Juniperus sp. as host plants associated with Horistus infuscatus.
The association with Asphodelus is particularly noteworthy. Like other phytophagous true bugs, it feeds using piercing-sucking mouthparts.
Life Cycle
Like other Heteroptera, Horistus infuscatus undergoes incomplete metamorphosis, passing from egg through successive nymphal stages to the adult without a pupal stage.
The nymphs progressively resemble the adults as they develop. Each moult increases their size and wing development until the final adult stage.
The historical Cyprus material collected on 9–10 March 1950 included adults, indicating that at least the insects then identified as this species were already adult early in the spring.
Ecological Role
As a phytophagous true bug, the species forms part of the complex food webs associated with Mediterranean vegetation. Plant bugs consume plant tissues while themselves providing food for predatory arthropods and other insectivorous animals.
Its association with asphodels is particularly interesting in the eastern Mediterranean, where these plants are characteristic components of many open and dry habitats.
Conservation Status
There is no published global assessment of Horistus infuscatus on the IUCN Red List, and the species therefore has no assigned IUCN category. iNaturalist likewise displays no conservation status for this taxon.
