Το φώλιασμα των Γελαδάρηδων στην πανέμορφη λίμνη της Αμμοχώστου, μέσα από ένα ωραίο βίντεο του Γιώργου Κωνσταντίνου.

Σε ένα πρόσφατο οδοιπορικό μας στην κατεχόμενο Κύπρο, είχαμε επισκεφτεί μεταξύ άλλων και τις πανέμορφες λίμνες του Άη Λουκά. Εκεί, μαζί μια παρέα τουριστών-πτηνοπαρατηρητών που ήταν φουλ οργανωμένοι με κιάλια, φωτογραφικές μηχανές και ειδικά τηλεσκόπια, απολαύσαμε λογής-λογής πουλιά όπως ερωδιούς, διάφορα είδη παπιών, γλαρόνια, πελλοκατερίνες, καραπαττάδες, φλαμίνγκο κ.α. Το θέαμα ήταν πραγματικά εντυπωσιακό.

Όπως εντυπωσιακό είναι και το βίντεο που θα δεις πιο κάτω, με εικόνες από εκεί, όπου ο Γιώργος Κωνσταντίνου, Πρόεδρος του Συνδέσμου Προστασίας Φυσικής Κληρονομιάς και Βιοποικιλότητας της Κύπρου, καταγράφει σε ένα βίντεο - μίνι ντοκιμαντέρ το φώλιασμα των γελαδάρηδων στην εν λόγω λίμνη.

Ο Γελαδάρης (Bubulcus ibis - Βοσκός η ίβις) είναι ένα κοσμοπολίτικο ημιυδρόβιο πτηνό της οικογένειας των Ερωδιίδων. Η επιστημονική του ονομασία προέρχεται από την λατινική λέξη Bubulcus που σημαίνει βοσκός και από την λέξη ίβις (Ibis) που στα ελληνικά και λατινικά χρησιμοποιούνταν για να ονομάσουν ένα άλλο πτηνό που ήταν ιερό για τους αρχαίους Αιγυπτίους.

The nesting of Cattle Egrets at the beautiful lake of Famagusta, through a wonderful video by George Konstantinou.

During a recent journey through occupied Cyprus, among the places we visited were the beautiful lakes of Agios Loukas. There, together with a group of tourist birdwatchers who were fully equipped with binoculars, cameras and special telescopes, we enjoyed seeing all kinds of birds, such as herons, various species of ducks, terns, pelicans, cormorants, flamingos and others. The spectacle was truly impressive.

Just as impressive is the video you can watch below, featuring images from the area, in which George Konstantinou, President of the Association for the Protection of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity of Cyprus, documents in a video mini-documentary the nesting of Cattle Egrets at this particular lake.

The Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis) is a cosmopolitan semi-aquatic bird of the heron family, Ardeidae. Its scientific name derives from the Latin word Bubulcus, meaning “herdsman” or “cowherd”, and from the word ibis, which in Greek and Latin was used as the name of another bird that was sacred to the ancient Egyptians.
