Ένα φωτογραφικό ταξίδι στον εντυπωσιακό μικρόκοσμο των εντόμων της Κύπρου μέσα από 450 φωτογραφίες.
Το βίντεο παρουσιάζει πεταλούδες, νυχτοπεταλούδες, σκαθάρια, μέλισσες, σφήκες, λιβελούλες, ακρίδες, αλογάκια της Παναγίας, μύγες, ημίπτερα και πολλά άλλα έντομα, φωτογραφημένα στο φυσικό τους περιβάλλον.
Η βιοποικιλότητα της Κύπρου περιλαμβάνει περισσότερα από 7.000 καταγεγραμμένα είδη εντόμων, ενώ ο πραγματικός αριθμός πιθανότατα είναι ακόμη μεγαλύτερος. Πολλά είδη παραμένουν ελάχιστα γνωστά, ενώ συνεχώς προστίθενται νέες καταγραφές για το νησί.
Τα έντομα αποτελούν το πολυπληθέστερο και ένα από τα σημαντικότερα τμήματα της κυπριακής πανίδας. Επικονιάζουν φυτά, αποσυνθέτουν οργανική ύλη, ανακυκλώνουν θρεπτικά συστατικά, περιορίζουν πληθυσμούς άλλων οργανισμών και αποτελούν βασική πηγή τροφής για πουλιά, ερπετά, αμφίβια και θηλαστικά.
Κάθε φωτογραφία αποτελεί μέρος της πολυετούς προσπάθειάς μου να μελετήσω και να καταγράψω τη βιοποικιλότητα της Κύπρου. Μέσα από αυτές τις εικόνες αποκαλύπτεται ένας κόσμος σχημάτων, χρωμάτων και συμπεριφορών που συχνά περνά απαρατήρητος, παρά την τεράστια οικολογική του σημασία.

450 Photographs of the Insects of Cyprus – The Biodiversity of Cyprus Includes More Than 7,000 Insect Species

A photographic journey into the remarkable miniature world of Cyprus’s insects through 450 photographs.
The video presents butterflies, moths, beetles, bees, wasps, dragonflies, grasshoppers, praying mantises, flies, true bugs and many other insects photographed in their natural habitats.
The biodiversity of Cyprus includes more than 7,000 recorded insect species, while the actual number is probably even greater. Many species remain poorly known, and new records for the island continue to be added.
Insects constitute the most numerous and one of the most important components of the Cypriot fauna. They pollinate plants, decompose organic matter, recycle nutrients, regulate populations of other organisms and provide an essential food source for birds, reptiles, amphibians and mammals.
Each photograph forms part of my many years of work studying and documenting the biodiversity of Cyprus. These images reveal a world of shapes, colours and behaviours that often passes unnoticed despite its enormous ecological importance.
