Το προσκύνημα στο ξωκλήσι της Παναγίας της Παλλούρας ή -όπως το γνωρίζουν οι πιστοί- το «Εκκλησάκι» της Παναγίας, σχετίζεται άμεσα με την εκκλησία της Παναγίας της Χρυσογεριώτισσας.

Σύμφωνα με την παράδοση, στο σημείο που βρίσκεται το Εκκλησάκι θα κτιζόταν η εκκλησία της Παναγίας. Ενώ, όμως, όλη μέρα έκτιζαν την εκκλησία, τη νύχτα χαλούσε.

Οι πιστοί διασώζουν ως παράδοση πως, «η ίδια η Παναγία έδωσε την εξήγηση». Αποκάλυψε σε έναν πιστό ότι επιθυμία της ήταν να κτιστεί η εκκλησία της αλλού. Έδωσε μάλιστα οδηγίες τί έπρεπε να κάνουν· δηλαδή να βάλουν την εικόνα της σ’ ένα αμάξι με νεαρά βόδια και να τα αφήσουν ελεύθερα να πάνε όπου θέλουν και εκεί πού θα σταματούσαν εκεί να έκτιζαν την εκκλησία της.

Και πράγματι, τα βόδια σταμάτησαν στον μικρό λόφο βορειοδυτικά του δήμου, στα χαλάσματα του παλιού Μοναστηριού. Εκεί, λοιπόν, κτίστηκε η εκκλησία της Παναγίας Χρυσογεριώτισσας. Ο χώρος πέριξ του ξωκλησιού αναπλάστηκε το 2001.

Εκεί στο ξωκλήσι βρίσκεται μία αιωνόβια παλλούρα. Εξ ου και η ονομασία.

The pilgrimage to the chapel of Panagia Palloura, or – as it is known to the faithful – the “Chapel” of Panagia, is directly associated with the Church of Panagia Chrysogeriotissa.

According to tradition, the Church of Panagia was originally intended to be built at the spot where the chapel now stands. However, although the church was being built throughout the day, during the night what had been constructed would collapse.

The faithful preserve the tradition that “the Virgin Mary herself provided the explanation”. She appeared to a believer and revealed that she wished her church to be built elsewhere. She even gave instructions as to what they should do: they were to place her icon on a cart drawn by young oxen, allow the animals to go freely wherever they wished, and build her church at the place where they stopped.

And indeed, the oxen stopped on the small hill northwest of the municipality, among the ruins of the old monastery. It was there, therefore, that the Church of Panagia Chrysogeriotissa was built.

The area surrounding the chapel was restored and landscaped in 2001.

At the chapel stands a centuries-old palloura tree, from which the chapel takes its name.
