Cyclamen graecum (Greek cyclamen) is a perennial growing from a tuber, native to southern Greece, southern Turkey, and neighboring islands and prized for its variable leaf forms, which include some of the most striking of any cyclamen.

Cyclamen graecum native to a wide variety of areas up to 1,200 m (3,900 ft) elevation in southern mainland Greece, the Peloponnese,Aegean Islands, Crete, the southern coast of Turkey, and northern Cyprus.

The tuber is corky, with thick, strong, fleshy anchor roots sprouting from the center of the bottom.

Leaves are heart-shaped and toothed.

Flowers bloom in autumn and have 5 petals, white or pink with a darker blotch at the nose. They are often fragrant. The bases of the petals are curled outwards into auricles, like Cyclamen hederifolium.

After pollination, the flower stem coils both directions, starting from the center, not from the top as in Cyclamen hederifolium. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Το Κυκλάμινο το Γραικό (cyclamen graecum) είναι το πιο κοινό είδος κυκλάμινου στην Ελλάδα. Την ονομασία του άλλωστε την οφείλει στο γεγονός ότι συναντάται κυρίως στην Ελλάδα καθώς και στα ανατολικά παράλια του Αιγαίου. Είναι πολυετές φυτό με μεγάλο κόνδυλο στην ρίζα από την οποία εκφύονται τα φύλλα και τα άνθη. Τα άνθη του είναι συνήθως ρόδινα και εντονότερα κόκκινα στην κάτω πλευρά τους. Τα φύλλα του είναι καρδιοειδή σκούρα πράσινα με όμορφες πρασινωπές ανοιχτόχρωμες αποχρώσεις σε συμμετρικούς σχηματισμούς. Το ύψος του φυτού δεν υπερβαίνει τα 15 εκατοστά. Η περίοδος ανθοφορίας του είναι από τον Σεπτέμβριο μέχρι και τον Νοέμβριο.

Υπάρχουν 4 υποείδη συνολικά τα οποία είναι τα εξής:

• Cyclamen graecum subsp. graecum, το οποίο συναντάται στα νησιά του Αιγαίου και τη Κρήτη
• Cyclamen graecum subsp. graecum f. album, το οποίο συναντάται στη Πελοπόννησο και τη Κρήτη
• Cyclamen graecum subsp. anatolicum Ietsw, το οποίο συναντάται στην ανατολική Τουρκία και τη Βόρεια Κύπρο
• Cyclamen graecum subsp. mindleri Hildebr., το οποίο συναντάται στη δυτική Κρήτη
