In the genus Propomacrus there are only three species;
Propomacrus bimucronatus (Pallas, 1781) with a distribution from Balkans to Afghanistan
Propomacrus davidi Deyrolle, 1874 found in China
Propomacrus bimucronatus ssp. cypriacus Alexis & Makris 2002, Endemic subspecies of Cyprus

Propomacrus cypriacus is a large striking beetle in the family Euchiridae (Superfamily Scarabaeoidea)
Its length can reach 40mm and the males have characteristic very long front legs.
It is a rare, strictly protected, species included in Annex II of the 92/43/EEC Directive after a proposal by the Republic of Cyprus. Its larvae feed on rotten wood of aged oaks or carobs. The flight period of the adult insects is August - September.
