Μια τρανή απόδειξη αποδεικνύει άλλη μια φορά ότι κάποτε το μικρό νησί μας, πριν εκατομμύρια χρόνια βρισκόταν κάτω από τη θάλασσα. Ο 9χρονος εγγονός του γνώστη και φυσιολάτρη απολιθωμάτων, Γιώργου Κωνσταντίνου, εντόπισε απολιθωμένο δόντι λευκού καρχαρία στο Τσέρι.

Σήμερα, ο μικρός Γιώργος εντόπισε στην περιοχή στο Τσέρι σε ένα λόφο ένα σπάνιο για την Κύπρο απολιθωμένο δόντι λευκού καρχαρία και ο παππούς του, Γιώργος Κωνσταντίνου θέλησε να μοιραστεί τη χαρά του, με τους διαδικτυακούς του φίλους.

«Απίστευτη χαρά του Γιώρκου μου όταν βρήκε σήμερα 26/2/2023 σε λόφο στο Τσέρι ένα σπάνιο για την Κύπρο απολιθωμένο δόντι λευκού καρχαρία εκατομμυρίων χρονών».

Αξίζει να σημειωθεί, ότι ο Γιώργος Κωνσταντίνου είναι γνώστης και φυσιολάτρης απολιθωμάτων όπου διαθέτει μια τεράστια συλλογή. Όπως μας ανέφερε ο ίδιος το δόντι ανήκει στο καρχαρία με την ονομασία Shortfin mako shark. Ο μικρός ενθουσιάστηκε αλλά όπως μας ανέφερε ο Γιώργος Κωνσταντίνου, ο εγγονός του έχει ξεκινήσει να παρατηρεί και να εντοπίζει σημαντικά στοιχεία αφού μέσα του υπάρχουν τα γονίδια.

Αξίζει να σημειωθεί, ότι κάποτε η Κύπρος βρισκόταν κάτω από τη θάλασσα, είναι ένα μοναδικό ανά το παγκόσμιο πλήρως διατηρημένο και ολοκληρωμένο κομμάτι ωκεάνιου φλοιού που βρίσκεται πάνω από τη θάλασσα. Λέγεται ότι η Κύπρος αναδύθηκε μέσα από την θάλασσα δύο φορές. Η πρώτη φορά που αναδύθηκε το Τροόδος ήταν πριν 90 εκατομμύρια χρόνια (Στην Κύπρο η εμφάνιση του ανθρώπου έγινε πριν από 12 χιλιάδες χρόνια).

Πριν 70 εκατ. χρόνια οι δύο πλάκες, στο μεταίχμιο των οποίων βρίσκεται η Κύπρος (η αφρικανική και η ευρασιατική), άρχισαν να απομακρύνονται η μία από την άλλη, δημιουργήθηκαν κενά μεταξύ τους και πριν 25 εκατομμύρια χρονιά η ξηρά είχε σκεπαστεί από την θάλασσα και μόλις πριν 12 εκατομμύρια χρόνια επανεμφανίστηκε το παλαιότερο νησί, που ήταν κυρίως η περιοχή του Τρόοδος με ένα άλλο γειτονικό δεύτερο νησάκι, η σειρά του Πενταδάκτυλου.

West of the village of Kapedes, for many years man dug the earth to find copper and iron pyrite. The small trains descended into the galleys, filled them with soil and rose to the surface carrying their precious cargo to the ore washing area. By digging into the earth they created a huge amphitheater basin. Over the years it grew bigger and bigger, until the day the tinder stopped beating on the copper. The mine was abandoned by its owner, which was the Hellenic Mining Company (HME).

She left behind a lunar landscape. No landscape restoration. They didn't plant a single tree when they left. A gallery still remains open. But nature undertook to restore what man's greed destroyed. He filled the huge basin with water. He gave her all the colors of the earth, to "match" the landscape. He transformed it into a beautiful lake. This small but impressive red lake of the Kokkinonero mine is located between the villages of Kapedes, Kampia and Analiontas. It is a pyrite mine that was operated in the 1950s by the Hellenic Mining Company (HME).

Δυτικά του χωριού Καπέδες, για πολλά χρόνια ο άνθρωπος έσκαβε τη γη για να βρει χαλκό και σιδηροπυρίτη. Τα μικρά τρένα κατηφόριζαν στις γαλαρίες, τα γέμιζαν με χώμα και ανέβαιναν στην επιφάνεια μεταφέροντας το πολύτιμο φορτίο τους στον χώρο πλύσης των μεταλλευμάτων. Σκάβοντας τη γη δημιούργησαν μια τεράστια αμφιθεατρική λεκάνη. Με τα χρόνια όλο και μεγάλωνε, μέχρι την μέρα που ο κασμάς έπαψε να κτυπά στον χαλκό. Το ορυχείο εγκαταλείφτηκε από τον ιδιοκτήτη του που ήταν η Ελληνική Μεταλλευτική Εταιρεία (ΕΜΕ).

Πίσω της άφησε ένα σεληνιακό τοπίο. Καμιά αποκατάσταση του τοπίου. Ούτε ένα δένtρο δεν φύτεψαν φεύγοντας. Μια γαλαρία μένει ακόμα ανοικτή. Η φύση όμως ανάλαβε να αποκαταστήσει όσα η απληστία του ανθρώπου κατάστρεψε. Την τεράστια λεκάνη την γέμισε με νερό. Της έδωσε όλα τα χρώματα της γης, για να "ταιριάζει" με το τοπίο. Την μεταμόρφωσε σε μια όμορφη λίμνη. Η μικρή αυτή αλλά εντυπωσιακή κόκκινη λίμνη του μεταλλείου Κοκκινόνερο βρίσκεται μεταξύ των χωριών Καπέδες, Καμπιά και Αναλιόντας. Πρόκειται για μεταλλείο πυρίτη που λειτούργησε τη δεκαετία του 1950 από την Ελληνική Μεταλλευτική Εταιρεία (ΕΜΕ).

Lara Beach is a remote, pristine stretch of coast in the Akamas Peninsula National Park with soft sand and clear water. It is located in the Paphos district of Cyprus along the Western coastal area.

While it might be off the beaten path, you should have no problem finding this beach with its own private entrance and dirt road that leads to gorgeous views of blue waters from every angle!

The natural beauty here makes it an ideal spot to enjoy some time in nature or go for a hike along the coastal path that leads into Avakas Gorge. There you can see some beautiful rock formations. There are no services offered at this beach, so visitors will get their full dose of nature without any interference from humans!

Lara Bay Turtles

One of the most exciting things about Lara Beach is that Lara Bay is a protected breeding ground for endangered turtles such as Green Turtles and  Caretta-Caretta turtles. The best time for visiting comes at any point throughout August or September when the baby turtles hatch and make their way to the sea. Of course, you have to keep your distance, so make sure you bring those binoculars!

Swimming is allowed at Lara Beach but not in the central area due to the turtles.
